Michael Slaby

Executive Vice President, Global Practice Chair, Digital

As EVP and Global Practice Chair for Digital, Michael leads Edelman’s continued growth as the worldwide leader in online engagement and digital communications strategy. In this capacity, Michael is responsible for driving long-term digital strategy and cross-region collaboration and development as well as integrating digital strategy into the rest of the firm’s practice areas.

Prior to joining Edelman, Michael led communications and technology strategy for TomorrowVentures, Eric Schmidt’s hybrid venture capital firm in Palo Alto, as their Chief Technology Strategist. He also served as a technology and new media advisor to the Obama administration and multiple non-profit organizations including Citizen Effect, Jumo, and Livestrong.

After several years working in multimedia and web design then in application and platform development with a series of startups, Michael has been working predominantly in politics and campaign strategy over the past 6 years. Before joining TomorrowVentures, Michael was Technology Director for the Presidential Transition Team and CTO/Deputy New Media Director for Obama for America. During transition, he led operational and long-term planning for technology including web strategy and utilization, data integration opportunities, infrastructure review, and cybersecurity standards and initiatives. As CTO for Obama for America, he led the technical strategy and execution for multiple web platforms, data integration, systems and architecture scaling for the general election. As Deputy Director of New Media, he was responsible for strategy execution for all web, online fundraising, online organizing, video, text messaging, social media, and design for the campaign.

A graduate of Brown University, Slaby received the John F. Kennedy, Jr. Award for Supporting Youth in Politics in 2009 and speaks regularly to both corporate and nonprofit audiences on communications, technology, and engagement — most recently at The Kellogg School of Management, the Booth School of Business, the Berkman Center at Harvard University, Livestrong, the Edelman Digital Leadership Academy, and McGraw-Hill Companies. Additionally, Michael serves on the Board of Directors for Citizen Effect and Jumo — two young nonprofits working on international development and global economic injustice.

In his abundant spare time, Michael enjoys running, hiking, film, theater, food, and traveling – that often is whittled down to running along the Evanston lakefront at sunrise with his wife. Michael resides with his wife, Lydia, in Evanston.
